2018 Enrollment Regulations for International Students Applying for Undergraduate Study at the China Academy of Art

 

The China Academy of Art, formerly called the National Academy of Art, was established in 1928 by the National Department for Culture and the government of Zhejiang Province as a center for specialized studies in the Fine Arts. The China Academy of Art is jointly established by the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture and the Zhejiang Provincial Government and serves as a nationally recognized “Dual World-Class” institution of higher education. In addition, its Fine Arts disciplines have been chosen as World Class Branches of Learning. The Academy offers accredited degrees at the Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral levels as well as accredited Post-Doctoral programs. Currently, the China Academy of Art has three campuses, the Nanshan, and Xiangshan Campuses in Hangzhou, and the Zhangjiang Campus in Shanghai, as well as another campus in Liangzhu, Hangzhou currently underway. The Academy’s ten specialist schools of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, Painting , Design, , Sculpture and Public Art, Film and Animation, Architecture , Arts and Humanities, Crafts, Art Administration and Education, all presently accept international students for undergraduate level study. Currently our Academy holds international students from over sixty countries around the world, with a total number of one thousand international students currently enrolled in programs.

Zhejiang is one of China’s most economically and culturally developed provinces and the Academy is located in the provincial capital of Hangzhou. The Nanshan Campus sits beside the West Lake, and the Xiangshan Campus rests at the foot of the Xiangshan Mountain. Tranquil and visually exquisite, these sites are ideal settings for the practice and study of the Arts.

 

1. Student Application Materials

1. Applicant Eligibility: All applicants between the ages of 18-30 years of age, and who are non-citizens of the Peoples Republic of China, are eligible to apply.

2. In accordance with official policies, those born in China and holding a foreign passport, must include a record of their foreign living status for two years of the last four years living abroad.

3. A photocopy of applicant’s passport and a recent photo (white background, 35mm×45mm in size).

4. Senior high school diploma (original copy or notarized copy in Chinese/English);

5.Graduating high school students can provide pre-graduation Certificate instead. Note: students admitted must also submit an original copy or notarized copy of their official High School Certificate of Graduation (in Chinese/English)

6. Transcript for all the courses in senior high school (original copy or notarized copy in Chinese/English);

7. Photocopy of valid HSK Level 4 Certificate (Excludes courses conducted in English). Note: students admitted must submit an original copy or notarized copy of their HSK Level 4 Certificate. Scores must verify no less than 180 points, with the Listening portion no less than 80 percent

8. Applicant artworks (Consult documents addressing courses requirements)

10. Remittance receipt of the application fee (RMB 800 Yuan). Each student may apply or submit application requests in two (2) fields of study.(Account link)

1. Application materials and application fee will NOT be returned regardless of the result of application.

2. The China Academy of Art may ask the applicants to submit supplementary materials or take a telephone/video interview if necessary.

3. All of the above application materials must be completed and submitted on the official application site of the China Academy of Art Enrollment website for International Students.

4. Enrollment

Thoroughly assessing all applicants’ Major accreditation, HSK Chinese Language Proficiency Levels, High School attainment etc. exceptional students will be selected for enrollment.

 

5. Pre-Enrollment Fee

1.In the month following reception of all application materials, these students will be sent notification of enrollment and those not selected for enrollment will receive no further correspondence.  Students can also login to the China Academy of Art International Student Enrollment Website to check the status of the application and enrollment.

2.After receiving notice of their enrollment, students must then within one month supply tuition fee for the 1st year. Formal notice of enrollment and a VISA application form (the JW202 form) will be sent as of July 2018.


Note: 

1.Please make sure to the name of the student on the bank receipt in order to check.

2. Students who wish to withdraw from a program within first week of classes, due to personal reasons, will be refunded 50% of paid tuition. No refund will be made thereafter.


6. Course Fees

52000Yuan (RMB) per academic year. It is only possible to register for study after having cleared the year’s course fees. Housing Accommodation fees must be received within the time specified.

Housing Accommodation Fee: 1000Yuan (RMB) per month.

 

7. Program of Study

In accordance with <The China Academy of Art, Definitions of Student Status>, Undergraduate students are assigned 4 years for study (students of the Sculpture Department and School of Architecture [architecture, urban planning] 5 years). After beginning study, students are given close monitoring from then until graduation. International students work alongside their Chinese classmates and instructors. If unable to meet departmental requirements for an academic year, it is possible to extend the initial study period, with a maximum of 6 years as a limit (7 years for students of the Sculpture Department and School of Architecture [architecture, urban planning]). Those still unable to meet academic requirements will be withdrawn from study.


8.Registration

1.The usual time for registration is in early September. The exact time will be confirmed on the matriculation notice.

2.Students should apply for an X1 visa at the Chinese Embassy. Usually a valid passport, matriculation notice, and JW202 form are needed for the visa application.

For registration, the following documents are needed: a valid passport, matriculation notice, and JW202 form, an X1 visa, the bank counterfoil of the pre-paid tuition. High school graduation certificate and HSK certificate are required for students who submitted pre-graduation certificate and the copy of HSK certificate in application.

 

9. Beginning Study

1.Within the first three months of study, any students, which the Academy’s review panel access do not meet standards, will be subject to procedure and have their student credentials removed.

2.The China Academy of Art’s teaching model follows a two-tier-foundation specialized structure. During the 1st year, students of all majors enter intensive study within the Centre for Foundation Studies, moving to the departments of their Major at the beginning of the 2nd year. Architecture students of the (5 year course) spend their 1st and 2nd years in Major Foundation Study, entering the department the same year.

10. Graduation and the Diploma

In accordance with <The China Academy of Art, Definitions of Student Status>, only students who within the time specified meet all requirements for academic projects and compulsory courses (including graduating students’ artworks, designs, dissertations etc.) and whose academic attainment and standard of physical education overall meet with the Academy’s requirements, will be awarded the China Academy of Art Certificate of Graduation. At the same time, those meeting with the requirements of <The China Academy of Art Regulations for Student Awards> will be presented an appropriate degree certificate.
