EXEMPLAR

Pictures bellow show my public intervention on the official building of Art Association in my hometown, Zagreb. The building was built in 1934 on the concept made by our famous artist, Ivan Meštrović. Its primary function was a mosque and nowadays is used as an exhibition space as well as the headquarters for artists in Croatia.
Example - exemplary, exemplary;
What is the relationship between today's tolerant, modern and politically correct society and art, which preceded the idea of a "modern man" long before it was considered modern? Art today, at least one that has embraced the pursuits of social currents, does not do the task of community. Criticism becomes an unbearable symptom of an individual disturbing the pacified youth to which I myself belong, so any criticism is rejected or turned into praise. The established balance between need and demand is "long gone", so the contradiction between saturation and continuous thirst for information reached its peak with hyper production or poor quality and falling standards. All this is "Okay" because as a generation produced by "baby boomers" we are fully aware of the problems of capitalist society as well as the problems that globalization brings. Awareness is the first step of progress, right? A member of the "I generation", all he/she can do is all he/she wants. My “I” considers it a big problem when art, its creators and consumers are subject to the aforementioned standards. In all of this, art turns the idea of adaptation into the idea of complete symbiosis, so the desire for dialogue and discussion has turned into “my opinion is more important than yours”. With this work, I criticize social recklessness where the desire for prominence and uniqueness, which should characterize the art profession, turned into flattery and the idea of exemplary evolved into a diluted example of what art would like to be.
