Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship——University Program(B)


In order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and people around the world and promote China’s exchange and cooperation with other countries in various fields, the Chinese government sets up scholarships for talented students and scholars to pursue higher education or conduct research in Chinese universities.The China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as “CSC”), entrusted by China’s Ministry of Education, is responsible for the admission, enrollment and administration of Chinese Government Scholarship recipients.

Chinese Government Scholarship –Chinese University Program(B) is a sub-project established by the Ministry of Education of China(hereinafter referred to as MOE), aiming to develop outstanding international talent and improve the perception of China’s higher education. Under the mandate of the MOE, China Academy of Art is opening application for full-time postgraduate studies under the Chinese Government Scholarship –Chinese University Program.

I. Scholarship Categories and Application

(i) Categories

       Two categories:Post-graduates of High Level Program and the Silk Road Program.

(ii) How to Apply

      Upload all the application documents as an attachment to the online application system of CAA 

(https://caa.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx).The incomplete application documents will not be processed.

(iii) Application Deadline

The "Universy Program" (Category B)  operates in accordance with the specific project guidelines issued by the China Scholarship Council for the year. All applicants must first register through our  admissions system. Only those who pass the document review, academic evaluation, and interview assessment will be eligible for scholarship recommendation. Applicants planning to apply for the "High-Level Program" scholarship program must submit their applications by February 28, 2026. The application deadline for the "Silk Road" program is currently pending confirmation.

II. Supporting Categories, Duration and Majors
(i)Supporting Categories

The High Level Program sponsors postgraduates including masters and doctors;

Silk Road Program sponsors undergraduates and postgraduates from the Belt & Road countries only(https://www.yidaiyilu.gov.cn/country);

(ii) Duration

The Chinese Government Scholarship covers both major study and Chinese language (preparatory) study. The language courses last one year, whereas the duration of the scholarship for major study conforms to that as required.

(iii)Majors

Include all majors released on the CAA International Students Admissions Guide of every year.

III. Scholarship Coverage

(i) Tuition fees;

(ii) Free university dormitory;

(iii) Stipend;

Undergraduates: CNY 2,500 per month;

Master's students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month;

Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month.

(iv) Comprehensive medical insurance.

    CNY 1000 per person per year;

       CNY 500 per person (for programs lasting less than six months)

IV. Eligibility Requirements

1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health. 

2. Education background and age limit:

- Applicants for bachelor degree studies must have high school degree. (within the ages of 18-25 years of age)

- Applicants for master's degree studies must have bachelor's degree (applicants must be under the age of 35).

- Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have master's degree (applicants must be under the age of 40).

3. Applicants should have a competitive academic record.

4. Applicants should not be beneficiaries of any other scholarships.

5. Language proficiency requirements:

Applicants for Chinese-taught programs:

Applicants for bachelor degree studies must have passed HSK level 4 and submit scanned copies of their certificates. (Original copy of HSK should be submitted when enrollment.)

Applicants for master's & doctoral degree studies must have passed HSK level 4 and submit scanned copies of their certificates. (Original copy of HSK should be submitted when enrollment.)

If the Chinese level does not meet the requirements for admission to the major, the applications must study Chinese language for one year before you go to major learning. 

- There are no Chinese language proficiency requirements for the applicants of English-taught programs, but they (except for English native speakers) must have an internet-based TOEFL test score 90 or IELTS test score 6.5 (or above). 

V. Application Materials 

1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship, filled in Chinese or in English, pasted with a recent photograph (white background, 35mm×45mm in size).

Applicants shall fill in and submit application form via the CSC Online Application System for Study in China("http://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/"). Agency Number of China Academy of Art is 10355.

2.  The application material on Regulations for International Students Application of Undergraduate Study or Master's degree Students or PhD. Students:(https://caa.at0086.cn/site/admission.html)

(1) Copy of Passport Page. If the validity of the applicant's current passport does not meet the requirement (meaning the passport expires before September 2026), please apply for a new passport before submitting the application;

(2) One recent ID photo (Photo format: colored 35*53mm ID photo, white background without hat, head takes up no less than 2/3 of photo size, photo size not less than 320*240 pixels, aspect ratio 4:3, size 100-500kb, JPG format.)

(3) Notarized highest diploma. Prospective diploma winners must submit official proof of student status by their current school. Students should provide certificate of student status. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.

(4) Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, master period(if any), and doctoral period (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university's academic affairs office, graduate students affairs department, or relevant student management department. They can be in Chinese or English, but must be attached with notarized English translations if they are in foreign languages other than English; 

(5) Language Proficiency Proof. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must provide HSK4 certificate.The HSK certificate is valid for 2 years.

(6) A study plan proposal in CAA. A study plan written in Chinese shall contain more than 2,00 characters or words for bachelor program;for master's and doctoral program, more than 2,000 characters or words. The proposal of a doctoral student shall be signed by the applicant’s Chinese supervisor;

 (7)  Recommendation letters. Two letters of recommendation (written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors shall be submitted. These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of learning in China, exchange between universities, comprehensive abilities, and evaluation of future growth. (9) Applicants under the age of 18 must submit relevant legal documents of their legal guardian in China.

(10) Scanned copy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The original should be kept by the applicant. The form is designed by the Chinese quarantine authority and can be obtained from the dispatching authority. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Please provide a list of chest X-ray pictures and blood test reports. Incomplete records or those without signature of physician or official stamp of hospital, applicant’s photograph with no check mark are NOT acceptable. Please choose appropriate time to take medical examination due to 6-months validity of the medical results.

(11) Certificate of No Criminal Record(Chinese or English). The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

(12) Photocopy of bank receipt for transferring the RMB 800 application fee (application fee cannot be paid through on-line bank).

VI.  Application Process

1. Applicants shall submit scholarship applications directly to our university according to the requirements;

2. Our university conducts a unified admissions review for international students applying to CAA. The selection process for international student admission follows a "preliminary review + interview" model. After completing the online application in the China Academy of Art International Student Service System, the International College will conduct an initial eligibility review. Applicants who pass the preliminary review will undergo a professional re-evaluation by the relevant academic department and participate in an interview (the interview is conducted online via a unified basic assessment, primarily evaluating the applicant's Chinese language proficiency, professional competence, and academic research ability). Finally, the university's International Student Admissions Review Panel will comprehensively assess the candidates and determine the recommended list for Chinese Government Scholarship eligibility, notifying the selected students accordingly;

3. Students who obtain the recommendation must log in to the "Chinese Government Scholarship Information System for Studying in China" (http://www.campuschina.org) within the specified timeframe, complete the online Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form, and submit the required application materials. The agency code for processing is: 10355;

4. The CAA shall submit the recommended candidates list and their application documents to The China Scholarship Council.

5. The China Scholarship Council will organize relevant institutions and experts to conduct eligibility and academic reviews of the recommended candidates and determine the final list of admitted students;

6. Upon approval by the China Scholarship Council, the university will notify the scholarship recipients in June and issue relevant admission materials, including the Admission Notice.

VII. Notes

1. Scholarship students' affairs are managed according to the relevant regulations of Chinese Government Scholarship. Scholarship students must go through the Annual Review of the Chinese Government Scholarship Status. If students fail in Annual Review, their scholarship will be terminated.

2. Scholarship students are not allowed to change their universities as well as their academic programs or the duration of study specified in the Admission Notice.

3. For scholarship students who have to suspend their studies due to illness must return to their home country for further treatment and recovery, expenses for the international travel to and from the university will be borne by the students themselves, and their scholarship status will be reserved for one year at most, with the monthly living allowance stopped during the suspension. Scholarships of the students who suspend their studies for reasons other than illness will not be reserved.

4. The International College of CAA is responsible for the interpretation of the scholarship granting procedures and regulations.
