1. Understand your education plan
Every graduate student of MA or PhD has an individual education plan. Pls check it in “graduate students’ system” in CAA website ---education direction. There are two parts of education plan, ie. literary and courses. Literary part is of academic thoughts and education requirements while courses part has listed all the relevant courses of the degree.
There are multiple research directions in the education plan. Those who have fixed their research directions during admission have been made connected with them already.
Some freshmen(mainly non-full time students)who haven’t fixed research directions during application are connected to related research directions temporarily. They will be fixed after entering as arranged by the schools and CAA. Then the connection can be made again and presented.
2. Understand the curriculum system
The curriculum for graduate students of MA or PhD in CAA has three divisions: general courses, core courses and supplementary courses.
a. General courses
There are general compulsory courses and general elective courses. General compulsory courses are politics, foreign language and guide to write dissertation. They are arranged as class teaching. General elective courses are for cultural accomplishment and to be selected by the students themselves.
b. Core courses
There are compulsory core courses and elective core courses. There are few for the latter at the moment. Compulsory core courses are further divided into professional core courses and elective core courses. They are arranged as class teaching. Please take them as noted time and place given by CAA or yr school.
c. Supplementary courses
Those who enter with equivalent educational level, cross-disciplinary or with a weak foundation confirmed by the tutor need to take supplementary basic professional courses. The students of first two types will be confirmed by the graduate students’ affairs office. It will be decided later as to who will take supplementary courses. There are usually a few who need to do so. When the decision is made, please take them as noted time and place given by CAA or yr school.
3. Make personal study plan
This is to make the complete curriculum list of all the courses for the whole time according to the student’s personal research direction.
a. As to conform the educational system of CAA, every graduate student must make a personal study plan according to the education plan. This is to choose all the necessary courses of the education plan. First you need to SAVE your personal study plan in the website system. ONLY after that you are able to fulfill the course-selecting including general elective courses.
Basic Flow
Choose research direction(skip it as it is already connected automatically for graduate students of 2018)--click to choose relevant courses—save—present. It is necessary to wait until it shows “present successful” to go on.
How to choose relevant courses:
Core courses are fixed as chosen already in the right column with RED characters, so it is NOT necessary for the students to choose. Either is it possible to be dropped. Please pay attention to the BLUE elective courses in it. Please check the related notes to make sure if the course is suitable for your research direction before clicking to select it.
b. The student’s personal study plan is based on its major education direction. It is also the basis for the graduation verifying of courses later. If there is any course which is NOT completed, the student is NOT able to graduate. Therefore please be careful NOT to add any extra course that is not related to graduation in the personal study plan.
