Chinese Landscape Course ——How to paint a Traditional Chinese Landscape painting?

( By a  study of Shen Zhou’s Work “Bei Gang Tu” )


Course Objectives.

This course is based onBei Gang Tu” which is one of the famous series of works “Dong Zhuang TU Ce” done by the famous Ming Dynasty artist Shen Zhou. Through teacher’s explanations and demonstrations of each elements in this painting, students will be able to establish an idea about how to paint a traditional Chinese landscape painting, and master the basic method of how to use Chinese brush, ink and color, enjoy the process of completing this work by their own.

 

Duration of the course: 4 weeks


Tuition: RMB2400 per 4 weeks

 

Course Format:

PDF Imitation instructions, Short Video Demonstration, Homework Review, Video Q&A

PDF is used to clarify the key points and difficulties of teaching, to let students better understand the methods and key points of copying in the form of demonstration and step-by-step learning, etc. A corresponding PDF instructions is provided for each teaching unit.


Short Video Demonstration 

Through the teacher's demonstration video, students will understand the basic techniques of brush and ink drawing in copying, and can achieve the effect of on-site teaching by observing the video. (Students should install the Dingtalk)


Homework Review

The teacher uses students' assignments to understand their study and understanding of the course and comments on the assignments to help students improve the quality of their practice and efficacy of learning. Assignments are submitted each week by students within the deadline with high quality pictures of their work, which are returned with the teacher's comments.


Video Q&A For difficult and confusing questions  one-to-one 30-minute video Q&A will be held for each student once a week, and the student should make a appointment with the teacher in advance. Without an appointment, student will be considered waiving this opportunity.

 

Course content:

Preparation for class

After confirming the customized course, before the start of the course, we will send you the video of Professor Zhang Jie's study of "The introduction of Traditional Chinese Landscape Painting" and the high-resolution pictures of” Bei Gang Tu” as well as the list of materials and tools.

Explanation of the method of lotus (week 1)

Explanation and demonstration of the methods for painting lotus grass and water.

Explanation of the method of trees (week 2)

Demonstration and practice of methods for painting tree polesdouble. line leavesdots leavesand groups small trees.

Explanation of the method of land, bank and soil slope. (week 3)

Demonstration and practice of methods for painting soil slopes, banks and stones.

Complete work exercise (week 4)

Explanation of the complete steps and methods for a partial copying practice.

 

Weekly schedule of classes.

Monday Teacher sends out PDF instructions, links to recorded videos, and homework requirements via Dingtalk this week. Students practice on their own.

Tuesday and Wednesday Students practice and submit high-resolution photos of their work via Dingtalk. According to the practice submitted teacher could find how is the study going on and what could be the difficulty for students.Teacher can feedback effectively on time.

Thursday Teacher sends back comments and suggestions on practice. If the students can not understand teacher’s feedback, they could send a video about how they painting to let teacher fine the problems or the students can book a One to One Q&A appointment.

Friday Students complete assignments and submit. teacher send back comments.  Students can book a one to one Q&A appointment on Friday, too.

 

Assignments:

Students complete 1-2 complete works per week based on key techniques.
