The China Academy of Art (hereafter referred as CAA, School Code: 10355), formerly the National Academy of Art established in 1928, is an important comprehensive college for advanced studies specialized in Fine Arts with full range of subjects and majors co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Education and the government of Zhejiang Province. It serves as a recognized “Dual World-Class” institution of national high education. In addition, the discipline of fine arts is recognized in the "First-class Discipline Construction Project". In the fourth round assessment of disciplines, Fine Arts and Design Art scored A+, Drama, Film & Television Studies and Art Theory scored A- and B+ respectively, which makes CAA one of the top art collages across China. Among the 28 disciplines, Study of Chinese Painting , Study of Calligraphy, Painting, Sculpture, Intermedia Art, Art Theory, Architecture, Landscape and Landscape Architecture, Visual Communication, Clothing and Costume Design, Ceramic Design, Animation, Art and Science and Technology, Industrial Art, Industrial Design, Photography, Radio and Television Edition, Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Relics, Fiber Art, Digital Media Art, Environmental Design, Pubic Art, and Film and Television Production have been approved of being built to be the world’s first-class undergraduate disciplines and specialties. Art Administration and Drama, Film & Television Art Design have been approved of being built to be the top undergraduate disciplines and specialties across Zhejiang Province. CAA has the right to confer bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctor’s degree and there are postdoctoral research stations in CAA. The college sticks to the point that CAA is building the world’s first-class art academy which gives expression to the top-level art research and education on Chinese culture and concentrating on cultivating the talents to be of fine qualities, to master art theory and the art of both ancient times and modern days and to have a good command of the art knowledge of both China and foreign countries. CAA locates in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, which contains five campuses of Nanshan, Xiangshan, Liangzhu, Xianghu in Hangzhou and Zhangjiang in Shanghai.
I. CRETERIA & ELIGIBILITY
1. Applicants of non-Chinese citizens aging between 18--30.
2. Applicants of non-Chinese citizens under 18 (must be guaranteed by guardians).
3. According to the Announcement of the Chinese Ministry of Education on Standardization of Work Related to the Admission of International Students to Our Higher Education Institutions (《关于规范我高等学校接受国际学生有关工作的通知》教外函〔2020〕12号), in accordance with Article 5 of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, those one of the parents or both parents are Chinese citizens and reside in foreign countries, and who have foreign citizenship at the time of their birth, do not have Chinese citizenship. Starting from 2021, their applications for admission to our higher education institutions as international students at the undergraduate level should, in addition to meeting other enrollment qualifications of the school, have held a valid foreign passport or nationality document for at least 4 years (inclusive) and have a record of actual residence in a foreign country for at least 2 years from April 30, 2019 to April 30, 2023 (actual residence in a foreign country for 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, calculated based on entry and exit stamps); residents of mainland China (Mainland), Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan who apply to enter our higher education institutions as international students at the undergraduate level after immigration and receiving foreign citizenship should meet the above requirements.
II. APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
1. CAA International Students Application Information Form. Please log in International College, CAA website (https://caa.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx) to fill out and submit online.
2. Recent ID photo (Photo format: colored 35*53mm bareheaded ID color photo, white background without borders, head takes up no less than 2/3 of photo size, photo size not less than 320*240 pixels, aspect ratio 4:3, size 100-500kb, JPG format.)
3. Scan copy of applicant's passport (photo page).
4. Applicants who have foreign citizenship at birth, whose one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens, must submit:
① Proof that the applicant acquired foreign citizenship at birth;
②Proof of cancellation of the applicant's Chinese citizenship or proof of permanent residence of the applicant's parent ( the Chinese citizen one) in a foreign country before the birth of the applicant;
③ Record of actual residence in a foreign country for at least 2 years from April 30, 2019 to April 30, 2023 (actual residence in a foreign country for 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, based on entry and exit stamps).
5. Residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who emigrated to a foreign country must submit:
① proof of acquisition of foreign citizenship before April 30, 2019;
②proof of renouncing Chinese citizenship;
③record of actual residence in a foreign country for more than 2 years from April 30, 2019 to April 30, 2023 (actual residence in a foreign country for 9 months in a year can be counted as one year, based on the entry and exit stamps).
6. Applicants who are under the age of 18 by September 1, 2023, are required to submit:
①Guardian guarantee certificate, the guardian shall be an adult living in Hangzhou;
②Notarized power of attorney for guardianship entrusted by the applicant's parents to the guardian.
7. Certificate of Non-criminal Record.
8. Senior high school diploma (original copy or notarized copy in Chinese/English); Graduating high school students can provide pre-graduation Certificate. Note: students admitted must submit original copy or notarized copy of their official High School Certificate of Graduation (in Chinese/English)
9. Transcript of all the courses in senior high school (original copy or notarized copy in Chinese/English);
10. Photocopy of valid HSK Level 5 Certificate. Note: students admitted must submit an original copy or notarized copy of their HSK Level 5 Certificate. (Total scores must be no less than 180 points, with the Listening portion no less than 70 points.The HSK certificate is valid for 2 years)
11. Applicants must submit portfolios of paintings (please refer to subjects list for APPLIED MAJORS OR AREA OF STUDY.
12.Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form. The original should be kept by the applicant. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Please provide a list of chest X-ray pictures and blood test reports. Incomplete records or those without signature of physician or official stamp of hospital, applicant’s photograph with no check mark are NOT acceptable. Please choose appropriate time to take medical examination due to 6-months validity of the medical results.
13.Scan copy of Tuberculosis Examination Report. Applicants must be tested for Tuberculosis in a certified hospital or testing institution. The results are valid for six months.

Note:
(1)Application material and application fee will NOT be returned regardless of the result of application.
(2)All the above materials must be in Chinese or English. Notarized Chinese or English translations are required for texts other than Chinese or English.
(3)CAA may ask applicants to submit supplementary materials or take video/in-person interviews.
(4)All of the above application materials must be completed and submitted online in the official CAA website for International Students (https://caa.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx).
(5)Please do not send application materials by mail or email. Materials sent by either method will not be reviewed and processed.
III. Application Time

IV. APPLICATION MAJORS OR AREA OF STUDY
Note: (1)All applicants must apply as per “Major direction” .
(2) Portfolio: the maximum limit of text and pictures is 5M, and the maximum limit of video is 20M.

VI. Acceptance:
The program plans to accept 40 students. The actual number will be posted by CAA Admission Committee.
VII. Admission Process:
The selection method of "preliminary examination + interview" is implemented in admission assessment.
After applicants complete their application in the China Academy of Art (CAA) Online Application for International Student Admission System, the International College of CAA conducts preliminary qualification review of applicants. For those who pass the preliminary qualification review, the corresponding major departments will conduct a major review and organize an interview. (The interview is conducted through the Internet in the form of online assessment to carry out a unified basic selection, mainly to review the applicant's Chinese language ability, professional ability, academic research ability, etc.) Finally, according to the comprehensive assessment of the results, applicants will be admitted on the basis of merit.
The interview time and method will be announced at further notice.
Applicants can check the admission results in the international student admission system.
VIII. Tuition Pre-payment:
1. Within one month after passing the interview, CAA will send qualified students notification of pre-admission, and those are not admitted will receive no further notification. Applicants may login on the CAA International Student Admission Website to check their status of application.
2. After receiving pre-admission notice, students must pre-pay the 1st year tuition via transfer to the given bank account (link:https://caa.at0086.cn/site/admission/show-5198.html) of CAA before the deadline. Then please mail the scanned bank transfer receipt to: caaic_doc@126.com
Note:
(1) Please make sure that application information like the name of the applicant and major or area of study is noted on the bank receipt for confirmation purpose.
(2) Please make sure to keep your bank transfer receipt; it will be needed when registering at CAA.
(3) Formal admission letter and Visa application form (Form JW202) will be sent out in mid-July.
(4) Students who withdraw from enrollment for personal reasons will receive a 50% paid tuition refund.
IX. Fees:
1. 52,000Yuan (RMB) per academic year.
2. Other fees will be charged upon enrollment.
3. Housing Accommodation Fee: 500Yuan (RMB) or 600 Yuan (RMB) or 700Yuan (RMB) per month. Accommodation fee of one academic year will be charged upon enrollment.
X. Enrollment:
1. Normal enrollment is in September 2023. Please refer to your formal Admission letter for exact time.
2. Students should apply for an X1 visa at the Chinese Embassy with your valid passport, formal Admission letter and JW202 Form.
3. Please enroll in CAA as per informed time in your formal Admission letter. When coming to enroll in CAA, please bring above documents (ie. passport, Admission, JW202) and X1 visa as well as the bank remittance receipt of the paid tuition. Original Senior High School Diploma and HSK Certificate MUST all be provided upon enrollment. Those who have not obtained the corresponding certificate will be disqualified.
XI. Program Structure
In accordance with Administration Rules for Undergraduate Students’ School Census of CAA, the duration of undergraduate studies is 4 years (duration of study for students of the Sculpture Department and School of Architecture is 5 years). CAA adopts an “Easy in And Strict out" policy. International students study alongside their native Chinese classmates and instructors according to admitted majors or area of study. If students are unable to complete the academic year as required by the department or are unable to complete the program requirements due to health problems, they may extend the maximum length of study to 6 years (7 years for sculpture and architecture majors). If they still cannot complete their studies, the program study will be terminated.
XII. Enrollment
1. New students enrolled in three months by the CAA will undergo a comprehensive review. After this review, if students are found not meeting the criteria specified in this regulation, they will be handled in accordance with the relevant regulations, including revocation of admission or academic registration.
2. CAA follows a two-stage education form composited of foundation and professional studies in accordance with the “CAA Policy for Undergraduate Students Major Allocation”.

XIII. Graduation and the Diploma
In accordance with Administration Rules for Undergraduate Students’ School Census of CAA, international students who meet all academic requirements, all compulsory courses (including graduating students’ artworks, designs, dissertations etc.) completed and HSK Level 5 achieved within the specified time while academic attainment and standard of physical education satisfying CAA’s requirements, will be awarded with Certificate of Graduation of CAA. At the same time, those meeting with the requirements of “CAA Regulations for Degrees” will be awarded an appropriate degree certificate.
XIV. Major Transfer and School Transfer
1. Undergraduate students are NOT allowed to transfer majors or to other colleges generally. Please check for detailed information in Administration Rules for Undergraduate Students’ School Census of CAA.
2. Students of China Government Scholarship have to give up their qualification for scholarship first and transfer to other colleges as self-paid students.
XV. Scholarship Information
International applicants of degree programs in CAA may apply for the following scholarships.
1. Chinese Government Scholarship(A) – Bilateral Program;
2. Chinese Government Scholarship(B) – Chinese University Independent Enrollment Program;
3. Zhejiang Provincial Government Scholarship for International Students;
4. Scholarship for International Students of China Academy of Art.
